Selection and debarking
Ecologist by vocation, our business has always been committed to scheduled reforestation, on the one hand to guarantee the perpetual growth of its only raw material and on the other, not to weigh heavy on an environment that it increasingly threatened by man. All the wood worked in the sawmill is managed according to strict forest planning systems.

This is planned according to orders accepted and warehouse stocks. In accordance with this need, trunks are collected from the most suitable stack and sent for working through technologically avant-garde production processes, always coordinated by a highly specialised operator.

This production process enables us to obtain a product that has been roughly milled and superficially planed, to be used as-is in its unfinished state, or planed.
During this work, the trunk fibres are unaffected, leaving the product mechanical and elastic characteristics unaltered, i.e. trusses "Uso Trieste" and "Uso Fiume".
Technical drying
Technical drying reduces the humidity within the wood in order to increase its resistance and anticipate the natural movements of wood such as torsion, curving and cracking. Drying also successfully and almost entirely eliminates the release of drops of resin typical of resin woods and yields an optimal surface result after planing and/or brushing.

Selecting sawn woods
This takes place in our sawmill after drying, because after drying any collapses or accentuated deviations of fibres can be seen in the wood, with consequent warping and therefore declassification of the material to poorer quality.
Planing and brushing
Whilst planing makes the surface area of the sawn wood smoother, eliminating any surface "hair" subsequent to sawing, brushing removes the soft part of wood, exalting the natural grain, thereby obtaining an antique effect appearance.

Workings
After the actual sawing stage, beams can be worked in various ways, such as, for example, by working the heads, smoothing off the corners and making all the cuts and holes necessary in order to install the beams on ceilings and/or roofs. These works are carried out using high technology, high precision equipment operated by master carpenters, in any case guaranteeing the artisan care of products.
Impregnation
Wood can be treated with suitable organic antiseptic substances to constitute an effective protective barrier against the development of larvae and insects (e.g. woodworm) and fungus spores.
Beams can be treated superficially with impregnation treatments, applied with a brush or sprayed on, of the colour and/or product type chosen by the client and/or Works Manager.

The carefully selected and worked materials are kept in large warehouses, sheltered from atmospheric agents, thereby ensuring that the external appearance remains unchanged, and quality is preserved.
Stocks
Thanks to a vast assortment of stocks, Segna Legnami is able to almost always meet all needs relating to the demand for wood and similar products. And in the trunks yard, before being accepted by the sawmill, each lot of wood is carefully registered and marked according to origin and characteristics. This rigid division of wood means that origin is always clear.
